Cartier is famous for its iconic panther motif. The panther has been a significant symbol for Cartier since the 1910s and is closely associated with the brand’s luxury jewelry and watches.

The panther first appeared in Cartier’s designs in 1914, when the brand created a wristwatch with an abstract panther motif in onyx and diamonds. However, it was Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier’s legendary creative director in the 1930s, who fully embraced the panther symbol and popularized it, earning her the nickname “La Panthère.” Toussaint’s fascination with the panther influenced Cartier’s designs, leading to bold, lifelike representations of the animal in brooches, necklaces, rings, and watches.

The panther motif represents elegance, strength, and independence, embodying qualities Cartier attributes to its clientele. It has remained an enduring and instantly recognizable symbol for the brand, with pieces often featuring sleek, sculpted panther forms adorned with gemstones and precious metals.
